Agia Galini (Holy
Peace in Greek) was once a quite fishing village in a calm idyllic
location that lies at the south coast of Crete. Built around a small
harbour, this picturesque seaside village is easily identifiable by the
white houses and hotels perched high on narrow streets that gently tumble down the
hillside to the harbour. On the bustley quayside there are
relaxing bars and traditional tavernas where good honest food is still
served.
The coarse sandy
beach stretches away to the east strung with sun-beds and parasols, it
can be busy during high season, though many of the other smaller
beaches that litter the coastline are easy to get to. Hiring a
car will open up the chance to visit this lesser known part of the
island.
Today Agia
Galini has turned into a lively holiday destination; nevertheless it
has been able to preserve much of its charm and is surely one of the
most attractive places in the south of Crete. Enjoy a lovely Crete
holiday.
