Almyrida lies at
the entrance to Souda Bay - the largest natural harbour in the Aegean
- set in a natural environment amidst the beautiful rolling country
side of Apokoronas with the White Mountains behind forming a majestic
backdrop.
Once a small
fishing village and rarely seen by travellers, Almyrida is now
developing into a small and lovely holiday destination; life in
Almyrida revolves around the beach which is lined with a small
selection of tavernas and café bars to ensure a different venue for
your meals on most nights of your stay.
Almiryda has good
swimming with a small sheltered beach and shallow water, there is a
small water sports centre with windsurfing, sailing and sea canoeing -
it only operates during the tourist season.
Almiryda is a
friendly and relaxing little spot, great for those looking for a quite
retreat but still close to other sites of interest. To get the
full benefit of the local area, it’s a good idea to hire a car for a
few days; Almiryda has two hire car companies located in the village.
Chania is the
main town in the area and is about 30mins drive. There is a
3-times-a-day bus service to Chania and local villages
- taxis are also available. Enjoy a wonderful Chania holiday
staying in a Chania hotel or a Chania Apartment or Villa.
JOURNEY TIME
Chania airport to Almyrida is approx 30kms (19miles) - 25mins by taxi
