An Introduction to Ayia Napa
|
Ayia Napa is situated on the south
eastern coast, west of Protaras. Once a small fishing
village, now a firm favourite for holidaymakers, it's a resort
of two halves; renowned for its glorious silver sandy beaches
and pulsating nightlife! The central village square -
quaint by day, dominated by the serene Venetian 16th century
Monastery and surrounded by delightful cafes - comes alive by
night and is a clubber's paradise! With shops and boutiques
galore - and outlets selling popular designer sunglasses and
watches. There is a huge variety of restaurants,
tavernas and bars in the village centre and lining the roads
leading down to the sea. The nearest beach is
approximately a 10min walk. The west side of the resort
- Nissi Bay area - with its magnificent beaches (comprising
Macronissos & Nissi Beach) is a lot quieter, more laid back,
with a few shops and a reasonable selection of restaurants,
tavernas, cafes and bars.
For beachlovers, Ayia Napa provides the ultimate in relaxation, with soft
white sandy beaches, shimmering clear blue waters and stunning views of the Med.
Every conceivable watersport is readily available and the local boat excursions
are a must. Diving and snorkelling are popular, due to the close proximity
of Cape Greco. The picturesque harbour with its array of colourful fishing
boats and cafes lies in between the west and east side beaches.

With endless activities on tap for both adults and children - the Waterworld
Themed Waterpark (the largest in Europe) has won many prestigious awards and is
a great day out for everyone. It also features Go Karts & Bowling.
The Museum of Marine Life and the Macronissos Tombs (an ancient burial site) are
also worth a visit.
Ideal for couples and families looking for a beach based holiday (most of the
accommodation is situated on or near the coast - well away from the night-time
revelry) and young people, for the vibrant nightlife (with plenty of
accommodation around the village square).
