Kokkini Hani is a pleasant
relatively simple and friendly resort with good beaches modest
nightlife and several other popular resorts nearby.
Located on the north coast of Crete, Kokkini Hani was originally a
small fishing village, which became a popular weekend retreat for the
residents of nearby Heraklion thanks to the area's two good sandy and
shingle beaches. Nowadays there are several modern hotels, and a good
selection of shops bars and restaurants. Even so Kokkini Hani is not a
large resort, infact it’s a growing resort but it still retains that
laid back atmosphere, there is a quite feel about the place.
Nightlife is low-key and consists of a selection of bars and tavernas
many by the waters edge, if you are looking for a bit more action on
some nights then take advantage of kokkiin Hanis central location and
head for the young and lively Hersonissos just a few km to the east,
or Heraklion the capital just a short trip to the west, its nightlife
is a bit more mature, both of these resorts are served by regular bus
service or taxi.
Up
in the hills behind the resort you'll find several sleepy traditional
villages, a couple of delightful monasteries, and even some caves to
explore if you fancy a break from the glorious Cretan sun. There's a
water park nearby at the picturesque village of Anopolis, complete
with artificial waves, waterslides, and a children's pool, and Kokkini
even has its own archaeological site - the Minoan villa at Niros.
