The sleepy village of Milatos sits on the
northern coast of Crete; the village itself has two parts, one by the
sea and the other a little further inland. The village inland is small
and traditional with a maze of narrow winding streets, as one tourist
quoted, “we marvelled at the silence, saw lemons and apricots growing
and smelt the sweet scent of herbs”.
The area by the sea has a nice little
fishing harbour with a few traditional tavernas and a couple of quite
beaches with water-sports; the beach to the east of the harbour is
pebbly, while the tiny beach by the harbour is sandy, this part of the
village has more tourist facilities than the village inland.
Milatos is a good choice for
people looking for a small tranquil setting, but at the same time
close enough to experience lively night outs in much bigger resorts
like Malia 15min by car) or Agios Nikolaou (25mins by car), although
the quieter resort of Sissi is closer.
JOURNEY TIME
Heraklion Airport to Milatos is approx 48Kms (30miles) - 45mins by taxi
